If you have incontinence, did you know that your diet plays a big impact in the severity of your symptoms? What you eat or drink and the amount of intake can greatly affect your bladder control. Although there is no specific diet made for the condition, there are recipes that can help those with an overactive bladder decrease the urge to urinate, encourage a healthy bladder and kidneys, and increase pelvic muscle control. Here are some fun recipes you can try at home. Bon Appetit!

Potato Garlic Pizza Snacks

Ingredients:

  • 4 Mini Pitas, 4 inch diameter
  • 3/4 cup Mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 tbsp Butter
  • 1/4 cup Onion, chopped
  • 1 Clove garlic, minced
  • 2 Medium potatoes, peeled and coarsely shredded
  • 1 tsp Olive oil
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Fresh Rosemary, chopped
  • 2 tbsp Parmesan cheese, grated

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  2. Place pitas on cookie sheet and sprinkle with mozzarella, right to the edges.
  3. Bake for 3 minutes or until cheese just begins to melt. Remove from oven.
  4. Melt butter in frying pan on med high. Sauté onions and garlic 2 minutes.
  5. Add potatoes, olive oil and salt.
  6. Sauté 2 – 3 minutes or until potatoes are almost soft.
  7. Spoon onto pitas.
  8. Sprinkle with rosemary and parmesan cheese.
  9. Bake 18 – 20 minutes.
  10. Cut into quarters for an appetizer or snack.

Salmon Fillets and Spinach Salad

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 Cup Chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/2 Cup Chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 Clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp Ground cumin
  • 2 tsp Honey
  • 1/4 cup Olive oil
  • 8 cups Baby spinach leaves
  • 4 Skinless boneless salmon fillets, each (6 oz/180 g)
  • 1/4 cup Sesame seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 2 tsp Olive oil
  • 1 tsp Grated lemon rind

Directions:

  1. In a blender or food processor, combine parsley, cilantro, garlic, cumin, honey and olive oil. Set aside.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together sesame seeds and salt.
  3. Coat salmon with sesame seed mixture.
  4. Heat 2 tsp olive oil in a non-stick frypan over medium heat.
  5. Add salmon to hot oil and cook 4 minutes.
  6. Turn and cook on the other side another 3 minutes.
  7. Toss spinach with 1/4 cup dressing and divide among 4 plates.
  8. Top with salmon.
  9. Drizzle with remaining dressing. Garnish salmon with lemon rind.

Cranberry Vanilla Coffee Cake

Ingredients:
FILLING

  • 1/2 cup Brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup Uncooked rolled oats (quick-cooking or old-fashioned)
  • 1/4 cup Canned Whole Berry cranberry sauce

CAKE

  • 3/4 cup Butter
  • 1 cup Granulated white sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 tsp Pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp Baking powder
  • 1 tsp Baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1 cup Sour cream

Directions:
FILLING:

  1. Combine sugar, rolled oats and whole berry cranberry sauce. Set aside.

CAKE:

  1. In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, cream butter with sugar. 
  2. Beat in eggs and vanilla.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, soda and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with sour cream.
  4. Spread half in greased and floured pan; spread with half the topping. Repeat.
  5. Bake in 350°F oven for 40 to 45 minutes or until tester comes out clean.
  6. Add a dusting of icing sugar to top of cake when cool.
